Spectacular sunrises and sunsets as result of dust veil aloft from Krakatoa volcano in East Indies: “western sky lighted up as if by a gigantic fire in the heart of the Adirondacks.” (Monthly Weather Review, Washington, D.C., Nov. 1883)

November 27, 1898
Heavy snowstorm occurred over Vermont while the famous Portland Storm was ravaging the New England coast: 20" at Chelsea, Hartland, and Woodstock.
