THE VERMONT WEATHER BOOK by David Ludlum (Vermont Historical Society, 1996) lists the following Historic Weather Events for October 16:

October 16, 1955
Second period of excessive rains over south only two months after deluges by hurricanes Connie and Diane; stalled front and secondary center south of Long Island produced 8.65" at Mays Mills on 15-16th and 11.77" on 14-20th.
