September 28, 1836
Snow reported covering the mountains of southern Vermont by observer at Williamstown, Mass.; first of three very early snows.

September 28, 1962
Unusual secondary center of coastal storm formed over western Vermont; high winds did extensive damage; heaviest losses in Bennington and Rutland counties; two radio stations knocked out; little rain fell.
