THE VERMONT WEATHER BOOK by David Ludlum (Vermont Historical Society, 1996) lists the following Historic Weather Events for July 8:

July 8, 1777
Signers of the Constitution of the new Republic of Vermont (1777-1791) were delayed in their departure from Windsor by heavy thunderstorms.

July 8, 1890
Big wind over state caused structural damage and several deaths; hotel south of Plattsburg, N.Y., blown down; four drowned on lake; damage at Alburg, Hyde Park, and Montpelier.

July 8, 1914
Flash floods at Jericho after cloudburst of estimated 8-12" fell in 1 1/2 hours; ten bridges washed out, several buildings undermined; Burlington had only 0.26".
