July 7, 1777
Battle of Hubbardton, a rearguard action during retreat from Ticonderoga, fought in Rutland county on very hot, humid morning.

July 7, 1984
Amtrak’s Montrealer wrecked at Williston when small bridge was washed out by heavy overnight rains, causing sleeper train to plunge into ravine; 5 killed and 150 injured. Burlington 1.47" on 6th, Essex Junction 1.59".
