THE VERMONT WEATHER BOOK by David Ludlum (Vermont Historical Society, 1996) lists the following Historic Weather Events for June 8:

June 8, 1903
Spring drought: no measurable rain at Burlington after 0.23" on April 16 until 0.15" on June 8. Yellow days occurred from 3-7th; sun appeared as red ball and foliage took on brassy hue; caused by forest fires in the Adirondacks.
