THE VERMONT WEATHER BOOK by David Ludlum (Vermont Historical Society, 1996) lists the following Historic Weather Events for March 16:

March 16, 1862
Major storm of snowy winter: Burlington 20", Craftsbury 19.5", Lunenburg 17"; storm built up very deep snow cover with high flood potential; thick crust preserved great depth until mid-April.

NOTE: Ludlum's 20" of snow in Burlington derives from historical records that go back further than the official National Weather Service snow records, which began in 1906.

March 16, 1983
Record deep late-season snowstorm on 16th-17th; Burlington had 15.6" total, Mt. Mansfield 16", Waterbury 14.4".
